COLORS THAT TRANSFORM A HOME

Puk Sjeldan’s journey into colorful interiors began in a world of black, white, gray, and beige. She initially avoided bold hues, but everything changed when she discovered a beige display cabinet with a vibrant blue interior. Fascinated by the contrast, she decided to experiment by painting a kitchen alcove in Yves Klein blue against a beige wall. The result was transformative – what had been an unnoticed corner became a sculptural centerpiece. From that moment, she was hooked on exploring the power of color and how it shapes a space’s atmosphere, marking the beginning of her passion for home decor and creativity.

Our guide offers colourful inspiration and practical takeaways for designing your dream home.

INSPIRATION AND BALANCE

Puk finds inspiration everywhere – from Instagram and Pinterest to restaurants, cafés, and art. As a Danish influencer passionate about interior design, she often draws ideas from a color on a building, a unique texture, or a striking piece of furniture. Her approach to decorating is all about balance. She plays with repetition and contrast, pairing warm and cool tones, bold and neutral shades, ensuring that no single element dominates the space. By repeating colors throughout different rooms, she creates a sense of continuity and harmony that defines her unique style.

One of her most treasured pieces is her X-line Chair, an original 1977 design by Niels Jørgen Haugesen. However, her lamps hold a special place in her heart as well – they add both ambiance and personality to her space. Every item in her home is carefully chosen, blending aesthetics with functionality to create a distinctive atmosphere, a hallmark of her approach to home decor and creativity.

THE LITTLE EXTRAS

For Puk, colors are essential, but it’s the details that truly make a home feel personal. As an influencer who shares her colorful journey, she loves to mix vintage and modern pieces, adding an unexpected touch to her interiors. It could be an unconventional wall color, an artwork with intriguing textures, or a quirky flea market find given new life in her home. She embraces contrasts and surprises, making her space both playful and sophisticated, and inspiring others to rethink their own interior design choices.

TIPS FOR A COLORFUL HOME

Want to add more color to your home but don’t know where to start? Puk shares her top tips:

  1. Choose colors that make you happy – look at what naturally attracts you.
  2. Start small, like with cushions, a lamp, or a painting, and repeat the color in different areas.
  3. Never let one color stand alone – colors work best in groups, creating energy and balance.
  4. Play around with color swatches and different combinations until you find the perfect match.
  5. Don’t strive for perfection – the beauty lies in the unexpected and personal touches that showcase your own home decor and creativity.
