IT STARTS WITH THE HOUSE

Eva Kaiser’s colorful home story begins with honoring the structure itself. “It’s essential to consider the building, the colors it already has, and the feeling you want to evoke,” she shares. A dining room needs a different atmosphere from a cozy living space, and color plays a key role in setting that tone. For Eva, it’s all about reading the room and using color not just decoratively, but emotionally – as a tool to shape the mood.

Our guide offers colourful interior design inspiration and practical takeaways for designing your dream home.

BALANCING BY FEELING

Inspiration, for Eva, comes from her surroundings – both inside and out. Red brick buildings outside and interior details like moldings and old frescoes guide her choices. One room was defined by a treasured Eero Saarinen yellow Womb Chair. It took nearly two years to make it shine, finally finding its home in a warm muddy yellow that balances the piece beautifully with the space.

Color balance is key to Eva’s design process. “It’s like a puzzle,” she says. Wood brings warmth, chrome needs warm tones, and texture matters just as much as color. Her golden rule? Stick to muddy tones. They create calm, cozy spaces and make bright colors pop without overwhelming. It’s about harmony across colors, surfaces, and materials.

CHOOSE WHAT YOU LOVE - AND KEEP IT

Sustainability, for Eva, is a matter of love and longevity. “Choose things you love. Choose things that last,” she insists. Mixing flea market finds, vintage pieces, and souvenirs, she creates a soulful home that’s built to endure. Even when letting go, it helps to own furniture that holds value and can be passed on. It’s about design with meaning, not just style – where lasting quality and emotional resonance go hand in hand.
