Trained at Design Academy Eindhoven, Maya and Fabian shape expressive objects where painting, drawing, and hand-building merge. What began during the 2020 lockdown as an exploration of airdry clay and resin evolved into a distinct craft language defined by bold colour, fluid lines, and sculptural presence. Their work balances function and artistic freedom, transforming everyday pieces into vibrant spatial statements.
A SCULPTURAL APPROACH TO LIGHT
Each lamp is hand-built through an intuitive process where spontaneous lines become structure. The curved silhouette emerges gradually, guided by gesture rather than strict geometry. Layers of hand-painted stripes emphasise movement, turning the lamp into a three-dimensional drawing that shifts in character from every angle.
The shade flares gently around the bulb, diffusing light while maintaining the dynamic rhythm of the pattern. An incorporated toggle switch ensures seamless usability, allowing the lamp to function effortlessly as both practical lighting and expressive object.
EXPERIMENTAL MATERIAL
Constructed from PEX tubing and carefully shaped airdry clay, the lamp balances flexibility with solidity. The surface is meticulously hand-painted in acrylic, where olive green and lavender tones are layered to achieve depth and clarity in every stripe.
A clear coat resin seals the piece, enhancing colour intensity while creating a smooth, durable finish. This combination of materials reflects an innovative approach that merges unconventional components with refined craftsmanship.
